After a long, dark winter, spring’s bright sun and warm winds are, well, a breath of fresh air. The only downside? All that sunshine spotlights your leaf-filled gutters, broken tree limbs and the dead plants in last year’s flower beds. Are a few tips and tricks for sprucing up the home for the Spring Market!

  • Clear gutters of debris (sticks, leaves, etc.) It’s important to keep gutters clear so they won’t clog and drive water under the house eaves and into your walls. Ensure gutter and downspouts are firmly attached.
  • Check the roof for any damage from snow or ice. Look for loose, warped or missing shingles and make sure the chimney flashing and skylight seals are intact. Contact our Preferred Partner for more information!
  • Clean house siding. Best practices to power wash the siding at least twice a year. Typically the North side of the home sees the most grime due to less sun exposure.
  • Prepare outdoor entertaining space. Don’t wait until the day of the party to arrange furniture and seating. Prep now and enjoy your deck or patio all summer long. Keep patios/decks swept and clear of debris.
  • Place dark mulch at landscaped areas.
  • Apply fresh paint to wooden fences. Freshly painted surfaces shows newer.
  • Replace faded house numbers so they are visible from the curb.
  • Paint the front door a semi gloss, contrasting color. A fresh coat of paint, especially in a color that contrasts with the home, will make the front door stand out.
  • Rake the yard / trim back bushes. Clean out dead leaves and debris in your lawn. Don’t let overgrown vegetation block the windows or path to the entrance. Cutting bushes and tree limbs will let the sun inside and showcase the exterior of your home.

  • Deep clean carpets and rugs. Polish all wood floors to a high gloss. DIY or hire an expert (Ask us who!)
  • Clean window treatments. Take down your draperies and launder or dry-clean them; dust off blinds and clean with a sponge.
  • Clean all glass and mirror surfaces. It is remarkable how much more light comes in clean windows!
  • Service air conditioners. Remove and clean filters (or replace if disposable), and vacuum vents on window units. DIY or hire our Preferred Partner!
  • Eliminate clutter where you can. Freshen up your rooms by removing unnecessary objects from tabletops and shelves, storing them. Replace them with a single arrangement of fresh flowers.
  • Organize drawers and closets. Messy closets give the appearance that your home doesn’t have enough storage space.
  • Clean ceilings fans of dust and grime.
